Night of Endless Snow My watch has ended. TAG: Lion. WORDS: 254. NOTES: YAY The wind was howling like a wolf's song and the snow was falling fast. A lone wolf as black as the night sky was traveling steadily uphill. Or rather up-mountain. Night of Endless Snow was not afraid of the white stuff falling from the sky though, he had been born in it. He had hunted and fought in the cold, it was in his very bones. Night kept forging onward, getting higher with each step that he took.
The wolf was on a journey for purpose. He had heard rumors about the Temple of Esera being somewhere up here. She was the Goddess of the Stars, the Goddess of Truth. Night felt like he needed some of that in his life right now. Not because of his strange adoptive parents or even finding out the truth of his parentage, which he did not know, but for his own peace. Night had been consumed for quite a while now with anger and pain, while he was not going to forgive, he did want some clarity and truth to ease his pain. Night also knew that Lestris would not mind him going to the Temple of her sister to seek guidance for what the Moon Goddess could not give.
After several miles, the black wolf finally stumbled upon a building. This had to be it. And if it wasn't, then prayfully the animals inside were nice enough to offer shelter until the storm stopped. Night lifted his paw to the door and knocked. Then he waited.

The world had succumbed to a world of haze and ice, snow falling from the sky in thick flakes that dusted the paving stones before the temple. The courtyard, normally filled with activity as various priests, priestesses, shaman, and monks went about their daily business, was empty, save for the carpet of snow left by the passing storm. Staring out the window on one level of the temple’s largest pagoda, Sehryn Raincatcher, High Priestess of Esera, gazed out into the storm and watched. It was not the storm that she watched, however. In the storm, dancing amidst the white and the cold, were visions of other places, other creatures, visions of revolution and greatness. She had seen the visions before. Had understood only in part what they meant. Yet they remained. They remained, and the High Priestess could not say why. What did Esera want her to do in response to the things she had seen? Would the goddess grant her more than these few flashes of faces and great deeds? What dreams awaited Sehryn when she rested, the snow leopard wondered, and what would they reveal to her? In a flash, the vision ended, broken by a speck of black against the white sheet into which the priestess gazed. Blinking, Sehryn watched as a lone figure drew closer to the temple, a traveler and a stranger come to the temple in a storm, swept here by some instinct… Sehryn gave a soft purr, amused by her own thoughts. She looked everywhere for Esera’s signs these days, even in the travelers who brought tales of great adventures beyond these mountains. It was natural, but foolish, and the snow leopard chided herself for these silly thoughts as she stepped away from the window and shut it with a gently tap of her paw. The High Priestess made her way down the stairs of the pagoda and along a walkway open on the sides but roofed and walled only by thick, red pillars and made her way into the great temple proper. She had drew near the door by the time the knock rang through the empty hall. Lifting one paw, the snow leopard drew the door open. “Enter, traveler,” Sehryn said in her warm, accented voice. The snow leopard’s green-blue eyes were luminous, her calm expression warmly lit by the temple’s torches. “You must be cold and hungry after your journeys. The climb up the mountain is not easy. I will see about having a room prepared and a fire stoked so that you may rest.” The priestess did not ask questions or demand the wolf declare his intentions. The temple was open to all. Esera was a welcoming goddess, a goddess who did not abide by falsehoods and trickery. If an undesirable guest entered her house, Sehryn would know. She did not sense any danger from this creature, intimidating and worldly though he seem. Turning, Sehryn caught sight of a young initiate walking nearby. “Cub, go and prepare a room for our guest, and tell Maisie to prepare a meal,” Sehryn said. “Yes, High Priestess,” the young one said with a bow before she scampered off. Sehryn nodded, as if satisfied, and turned her cerulean eyes back to the stranger. Vera OOC: I’m so excited!!!! Word Count: 548 |

Night of Endless Snow My watch has ended. TAG: Lion. WORDS: 220. NOTES: sorry it's not more, a friend interrupted and I gotta go help
The Watcher was not left waiting very long at all which sort of surprised the black wolf a bit. He no sooner got to the door and knocked than he was watching it open. His bright light blue eyes took in a beautiful silver and black spotted feline. Her blue-green eyes took in his own form as she welcomed him inside. Her voice was immediately mesmerizing to his ears and Night found himself glad that his hood hid his amazement at the sound.
The snow leopardess wore a calm expression as Night walked inside. The snow was already beginning to melt off of his thick and heavy black cloak and his black fur. The fire from the torches that offered light for the Temple was already offering a warmth to the wolf. Night was a respectable creature and did not bombard this leopardess with questions that she might not even have answers to, so the Watcher simply nodded as he lowered his hood. "Thank you. I'm used to traveling in the cold, m'lady. I'm from the North."
Night was going to say more when there was an exchange which made it clear as to the position of the snow leopardess. Night bowed respectfully, "High Priestess. My name is Night of Endless Snow; a Watcher from the Northern Tribe of Verys."

Sehryn blinked and dipped her head slightly, acknowledging his words. She knew enough of the world to understand that the north did not mean what lay north of the mountain, but rather he came from one of the two northern continents of Verys and Quarys. Based on his accent and the pleasant warmth of his tone of voice, Sehryn guessed that he must be of the former, though she had no way of knowing for certain without asking, and such truths were meant to be told in their time. It seemed that she would not be waiting long. After the initiate scampered off to prepare a room for the visitor, the wolf bowed his head and introduced himself, both by name and by the tribe to which he belonged. Sehryn knew a little of Northern customs, mostly what she could learn from books on the subject. Very few Northerners left their homeland to venture this far south, however. His presence here made her curious, though the look on her face did not betray her interest as she returned his bow with a slight dip of her head. “You are welcome to the halls of the Goddess of Stars and of Truth, Night of Endless Snow, Watcher in the Cold North,” the High Priestess said formally. She did not speak comfortably with those she did not know. Truthfully, she didn’t find it easy to speak comfortably with those she did know. But she always made an effort to be cordial when visitors came. With a slow, calm blink, the snow leopard added, “I am High Priestess Raincatcher, Speaker of the Stars. If you have questions, you may ask.” The high priestess tended towards bluntness, she knew, when it came to her role. Many travelers came to seek a “fortune teller,” believing Sehryn to hold the very essence of their future in her paws. Her visions were not so straightforward, but what little Truth she saw, she passed on, if it be the Goddess’ will. Though she did not know if this wolf believed in her abilities, or had simply stopped here to take shelter from the cold. It was possible. Unlikely, but possible. Night of Endless Snow My watch has ended. TAG: Lion. WORDS: 256. NOTES: Omgosh this is not how I thought this would go... But I love it!! The Watcher from the Northern Tribe of Verys noticed immediately how formal the snow leopardess was speaking. Unfamiliar with the customs of any of the other areas of Paradiastole, Night of Endless Snow suddenly was grateful that his parents had apparently taught him good manners for greeting others of high status around the world. Raincatcher was a beautiful name and it took a good deal of self control not to impulsively tell the High Priestess that. What was wrong with him?
Alarmed at his own internal intellect failing him to make way for emotions that had never appeared before tonight; Night found himself not answering Raincatcher for a few good moments as his brain tried to sort everything out. As a result, he stumbled over his words, "I... uh... I...." Deciding to take a deep breathe, the black wolf decided to just outright say exactly what he needed right at that moment, even if it wasn't exactly really what he originally came to the Temple for, "I need help dealing with my... my... um... emotions, your High Priestess." The sentence started out strong and clear before slowly succumbing to an almost whisper of 'emotions' before ending in the middle ground with the last two words. Night's ears flicked with embarrassment as his tail also twitched a bit and his body shifted it's weight slightly. What if this beautiful and entrancing leopardess laughed at his sudden lack of confidence? But being from the Temple of Esera, surely this Priestess would never laugh at someone in need. Right?

For a moment, the wolf was intriguingly silent. This was not a common occurrence, as many who came to this temple had questions, many questions, usually more than one, and they were all too eager to ask them. That was part of the reason why Sehryn never put off the stating of business when it came to strangers and travelers. It was best to know their intentions at once. This hesitation, and the stammering, however, were somewhat new, and the High Priestess couldn’t quite contain a quizzical tip of her head as she waited for him to formulate his thoughts. Her confusion was not cleared much by his confession of emotional instability. The words came as a surprise, given his strong, weather-worn appearance. She would have taken him, at first glance, as a creature of the world, in a manner of speaking. And why in the name of Esera would he come to the Goddess of Truth for illumination regarding matters of the heart? Were those not pursuits more suited to Kleis, the Goddess of Love? Still, it was not Sehryn’s place to turn away any creature who came in search of truth. The snow leopard’s expression was placid as ever, though a slight frown may have revealed some of her befuddlement to the stranger. “Your… emotions. I see. Well, the Goddess knows many things. Perhaps she can help you explore these feelings to come to a better understanding of yourself.” The High Priestess regarded Night of Endless Snow thoughtfully. There was something about him… something… Sehryn’s eyes widened. Before her, she saw a stretch of flat land as far as her eyes could see. She felt it beneath her paws, as solid as if she stood there among the hills beneath a seemingly endless sky. Turning, she saw Night of Endless Snow standing beside her, his gaze locked on hers, words stirring her cheek as he spoke to her, yet she heard nothing. With a jolt, the High Priestess snapped out of the vision. She stood still, frozen, uncertain. Never before had her visions of her own journeys taken her away from the mountains upon which Esera’s temple was built. Certainly she had dreamed of exploration, of discovering the truth of the world out there, but this… This was no dream, no daytime fancy. This was a vision, given of the Goddess. What did it mean? Stepping closer, Sehryn gazed hard into the wolf’s eyes, searching for something there she could not put into words, yet she felt it, felt something drawing her to him that she barely understood. “Who are you?” she asked softly, the question spoken almost absentmindedly, as if she spoke to herself. “Why have you really come?”Vera OOC: Haha wow, poor Night only just met her and he gets to see just how weird she is. Night of Endless Snow My watch has ended. TAG: Lion. WORDS: 277. NOTES: Finally
The black furred Watcher stood silently as he watched the High Priestess' expression and response to his truthful answer as to why he was here at the Temple. When Raincatcher responded, he could hear the questions in her voice even though her words were accepting. Night immediately began to explain. ”I did come here for answers, Priestess Raincatcher but I've only just got here and I believe that it is rude to simply rattle off question after question. I do need help with my emotions though there are deeper…”
Night of Endless Snow noticed that Sehyrn was suddenly not listening. For a split second, he felt a flash of annoyance but then his eyes noticed that her eyes were blank. Almost as if she had ceased to know of all of surroundings all at once. His ears flicked and he was just about to gently poke the beautiful snow leopard when Sehyrn snapped out of it. She stepped closer to him and the intensity in her eyes and in her voice took him by surprise. ”Um… I'm Night of Endless Snow from the Northern Tribe of Verys and I have come to seek guidance to settle my spirit and soul in order to find the Truth about where my sister is and to find my mother's murderer.”
Night had not meant to share all of that all at once. Now the wolf would just seem like any other traveler who just wanted to be on his way after the questions were answered. ”But…. I'm not sure how to explain this… But I felt… I felt like I was being led here… pulled here. I don't know why.”

“I did come here for answers, Priestess Raincatcher, but I’ve only just got here, and I believe that it is rude to simply rattle off question after question…” Interesting perspective, Sehryn thought, and certainly a refreshing one. A visitor with manners rather than manipulation on his mind. Sehryn knew her mother would chide her for such skeptical thoughts, but the priestess had lived long enough to know beast nature by now, and she did not trust those who did not devote themselves to the same standard of truth that she and the other followers of Esera did. Night of Endless Snow’s words faded, though, as Sehryn’s vision claimed her full attention. When she snapped out of it and asked her questions, she could see she’d surprised and unnerved the visitor, but the snow leopard did not step back or relent, so intent was she on figuring out just what her vision meant. It was an interesting quest that brought him here. Many did come to find those they’d lost, to learn the truth of disappearances and murders, but these creatures usually came with demands or tears, not this sort of hesitance and quiet. Perhaps it was simply the wolf’s nature. Sehryn could not say for certain, but she was intrigued. “Led here,” Sehryn echoed. She reflected on the vision that nagged her mind, filling her thoughts with ideas of the future rather than of the present moment. Finally, with a shake of her head, the priestess met Night of Endless Snow’s gaze once more and said, softly, “Perhaps you were led here. We shall see. I have a feeling that Esera will reveal the truth of your coming in time.” The snow leopard nodded slightly, as if something she had seen or heard had confirmed some private assumption. Then the priestess took a few steps back and blinked slowly. “Forgive my poor manners. You are tired and cold, no doubt. Let us get you to your room.” Sehryn turned, intending to lead the wolf further into the temple. There would be time for words, and for questions, and for answers, later, she reflected. For now, she would allow her thoughts to settle and would ruminate on the vision Esera had sent to her. Vera Word Count: 383 |
