Overall || Raincatcher is a quiet, contemplative sort of creature. She is calm by nature, and not given to violent fits of emotion, either good or bad. In a sense she's lethargic, and at times depressed, but she has a steady, resilient soul that helps her carry on without the strong emotions that others around her seem to find so necessary for their happiness. Raincatcher loves to study - to read, to listen, to learn, to observe. She has been instrumental in adding numerous volumes to the temple's libraries since she claimed the position of high priestess, and she often spends time copying down texts that travelers and merchants can take with them after visiting the temple, thus spreading the Truth that is so important to Raincatcher's chosen goddess, and, by extension, her followers. Raincatcher admires few creatures, preferring the company of her books to that of others, but as a high priestess she does have responsibilities that require attending to. Part of her worries that she is not a great spokesman for Esera, being as introverted and unsociable as she is, but Raincatcher does have a great deal of passion for her work and her calling, and she often pushes herself towards self improvement, even with social manners that don't come naturally to her.

History ||
Among Raincatcher's people, the snow leopards of Tesaaren, there is a tradition that one is given two names -- the Firstname, which is bestowed at birth, and shared only between parents, and the Heartname, which is given when the cub grows and performs feats or forms characteristics that ultimately inspire their Heartname. Raincatcher earned her own Heartname when she received her first vision from Esera. She stood on a plateau beside her mother as rain poured from the heavens and storm clouds blocked out the stars. As she gazed up, Sehryn thought she saw patterns in the fall of raindrops, faces of creatures she had never met, and she told her mother about the vision. Her mother said Esera had given her a unique and incredible Blessing, and Sehryn's Heartname, Raincatcher, was meant to reflect this in honor of their Patron goddess' gift.
This initial start to Raincatcher's life colored much of what was to come later. Her parents, a scholar and priestess of the Temple of Esera, both worshiped the Goddess of the Stars and prayed to her for a Blessing on their child, which was granted. From an early age, Raincatcher had a bond with her patron goddess and when she came of age, she took an oath to serve Esera and accepted her as her chosen deity.
A childhood filled with studying, surrounded by books and knowledge, fostered much of Raincatcher's independence of thought and her imagination, but she never developed social skills, being one of only a handful of children raised among the monks and priests of the temple. Even so, she never felt a particularly great sense of loneliness. Rather, the only thing that Raincatcher felt in need of growing up was adventure. She would often explore the mountains on her own, would dream up great adversaries and allies and stories of great feats and great heroes, and through her imagination she did not often reflect on her solitary life or the lack of time her parents devoted to her due to their focus on other things.
When she was in her teens, Raincatcher's mother, the High Priestess, grew deathly ill. She lay on her sickbed for months before she finally passed away, and in that time, Raincatcher's father taught her to take over her mother's role. It was not easy taking on such responsibilities at a young age. At times, Raincatcher was resentful, bitter that she'd been shackled with so much responsibility and never given a chance to travel and to have real adventures, as she'd always dreamed. However, dreams and feelings had never been the primary motivations of Raincatcher's life, and she settled into her duty without much outward complaint, despite the bitterness she felt inside.
In the years after her mother's death, Raincatcher has led the Starwatchers with her father's support. Since her appointment as priestess, word has spread that she is a fortune teller of remarkable ability, and more travelers come to the temple seeking her guidance and skill than came in her mother's days. She tolerates outsiders, mostly for the stories of other places and other Blessed they bring with them, and still dreams sometimes of the adventures she might have had, if things had been different.
