Are the Blessed of Paradiastole humanoid/anthropomorphic?
No. Although the creatures of Paradiastole do have capabilities to create, build, etc., they still resemble normal creatures of our world. Some creatures naturally would have an easier time in certain professions than others, i.e. an ape would probably be better at smithing than a cat. However, in the spirit of creative freedom, you can allow your characters a somewhat greater range of motion than they would technically have, so a cat could be a smith if you really wanted.
If the animals aren't anthropomorphic, how can they have clothes/weapons/etc.?
As stated above, we do want to allow for creativity (and weirdness) on Call of Destiny, and part of that is giving the animals the ability to use their intelligence to create things, to fashion weapons and clothes and whatnot to help them better survive in lands beyond those of their species' birth. We allow for a greater range of mobility in certain characters that allows them to dress themselves, wield weapons in various fashions, and also heal/perform surgery/other profession-related actions. That being said, try to keep things as realistic as possible. And when it comes to fashion, pants are less common than just cloaks and shirts and things. Think of what you'd probably dress your dog in if you were the type of person who did that.
What if I want a very specific Blessing/gift for my character?
I would consider which god/goddess would be most likely to give such a gift, first of all, and also consider if that god or goddess would give it to the type of character you are creating. For example, if you wish to have a character with the gift of healing, they would most likely worship the Earth Goddess, but if they are a cruel or selfish character, realistically speaking the Earth Goddess would be unlikely to grant them one of her gifts, since they aren't the type of character she would favor.
Can I create a demigod or demigoddess character?
At this point in time, we're planning to add the option to purchase a demigod or demigoddess character in our site shop. Please look forward to the addition!
Can my character be a mythological creature?
Not at this point in time, but we're looking to add a site shop later on, as things get rolling, so while for now we're sticking with creatures you'd find in our world, in the future we are definitely looking to add some options for mythical beasts. I'd like to note, however, that we'll be steering away from any humanoid creatures like sphinxes or centaurs, to keep the animal theme of the site. But for you dragon and gryphon-loving writers, please stay tuned!
Can I create a character that is an extinct species?
For now, we're limiting character creatures to animals that still exist in our world, however, we will be adding a site shop later on which will include animals of extinct species. So for the rest of you who want to play a sabertooth tiger like me, please look forward to the addition.
Considering many prey animals are sapient in Paradiastole, what do predators eat?
The Pantheon of Paradiastole give their Blessing to certain animals, and this grants the animals special abilities, sapience, and sometimes rare gifts, too. Many animals are not given this gift, and they are known as the Unmarked. They are non-sapient, and predators are free to hunt them.
Can my character have started out their life Unmarked?
Yes. The gods and goddesses do often select animals to receive their Blessing and grant that animal sapience. If you want your character to have begun life without sapience, just include that in their personal history, and explain some of the qualities about your character that might have encouraged their patron god/goddess to grant them a Blessing.
Can creatures live in different climates than they would in our world?
Yes. We don't like to limit your imagination or creativity if we don't have to, so if you want your lion to live in a marshland for whatever reason, feel free to do that. The only stipulation here is that we ask you to consider how the different climate would affect your character. For example, a polar bear living in the desert would probably really suffer from the heat, and this might make them sickly or tired a lot of the time, and a Savannah animal probably would freeze easily in the northern ice caps. This presents an added difficulty to their survival that you'll have to consider when writing for them.
Can animals of different species mate/have children?
The short answer to this question is yes. You may have characters of different species in a relationship. Any two characters can fall in love, no matter how bizarre they might be as a couple. However, when it comes to making babies, we do limit that to creatures who are biologically similar (i.e. a lion and leopard could have a child together, but a flamingo and otter couldn't). Offspring of different species also have a 50/50 chance of being sterile, though they can appeal to their patron god or goddess to have this effect reversed.
What if my character is sterile/in a relationship with a species not biologically similar and they want to have children?
Since gods and goddesses do bestow the gift of sapience on Unmarked, there are often many of these new Blessed that require nurturing and guidance. These children are available for adoption, and the Blessed who run the orphanages in which they live are typically not discriminatory about the kinds of couples that can adopt their children.
Can my character choose to forsake their god/goddess to follow another or can they stop believing in gods/goddesses at all?
The tentative answer here is yes. If a character has a good reason, they can decide to stop following their chosen patron god or goddess. Most characters are going to start following another, which may involve them losing any gifts from their previous god/goddess and receiving new gifts or blessings from their new patron. Leaving faith altogether will result in any blessings being revoked, though most gods/goddesses won't take away the creature's sapience. Their Marks will blacken and fester if this happens, which makes your character noticeably different from others. For your character to change patrons or to forsake religion, you must apply to a staff member for permission.
Does my character have to believe in a god/goddess?
Your character does not technically have to follow a specific god or goddess. However, it would be very strange for them not to believe in the gods at all, seeing as how the gods and goddesses make their presence known in this world. It would be the equivalent of someone placing an orange in front of you, and your response is to say you don't believe oranges exist. More common, perhaps, would be an animal that forsakes their belief/follows no specific god. They believe the gods exist, but they don't commit to one specific god. If this is the type of character you create, then they would have the Mark of a god or goddess and that Mark will have turned black due to the animal's disbelief and the subsequent revoking of their patron god or goddess' favor. Characters who don't believe in any gods at all would be rare, and most likely were turned sapient by one of the less caring gods, like the fickle Sea Goddess or the enigmatic Chaos demigod. Please consider carefully before making this kind of character, as they have a physical Mark that will make other, faithful characters have a certain disposition and distrust towards them.
Can my character believe in multiple gods/goddesses?
Yes, a character may choose to believe in and serve multiple gods and goddesses. This may result in the character having multiple gods' Marks on their body, symbols that they are Blessed by that particular god or goddess. Some deities are more willing to share followers than others, and some gods will likely take away gifts or Blessings if a follower chooses to devote themselves to another god.
What does it mean for one of the Blessed to have a "Birth God"?
Sometimes referred to as a Patron, a birth god is the god or goddess who bestowed sapience, the initial Blessing, upon a creature. No creature can choose the god or goddess who bestowed intelligence and self-awareness on them, mind you, and so it does come to pass that creatures choose a different god or goddess to serve when they come of age. When this happens, the Mark of their Patron begins to fade like an old tattoo, replaced by the more vibrant Mark of the god or goddess the animal currently serves. If an animal continues to serve their Patron, the Mark simply remains as is.
What "Birth God" should my character have?
This is going to largely depend on which god or goddess your character's parent served. Parents are not guaranteed offspring that are sapient, and so they often ask a gift of a Blessing on their children from the god or goddess they worship. Any children that your characters have will also likely bear the Mark of one of their parents. If the parents worship multiple gods, then it stands to reason the parents would ask one or perhaps all of their gods and only one of the deities would actually Bless the children in question. Now, the initial Blessing doesn't have to "stick" in the sense that the child can grow to follow another god or goddess. This simply results in the Birth Mark fading, replaced in a sense by a Mark of the god or goddess they currently worship, though the Birth Mark itself never fades away completely.
